Accreditation

International Baccalaureate (IB) 
IICS is the only international school in Istanbul fully authorized to provide all three International Baccalaureate's (IB) programs: the Primary Years (preschool-grade 6), the Middle Years (grades 7-10) and the Diploma (grades 11-12). IICS was authorized by the IB in 1996 to offer the Diploma Program for grades 11 & 12. In the same year, IICS was authorized by the IB to offer the Primary Years Program for grades preschool-6. The following year in 1997 IICS was authorized by the IB to offer the Middle Years Program for grades 7-10. This made IICS one of the first schools in the world authorized for all three of the IB programs. IICS was re-authorized by the IB in 2007 and had a successful 5-year review in 2011/12. IICS is being reviewed by the IB again in 2017-18. 


Council of International Schools & New England Association of Schools & Colleges(CIS & NEASC)

The School is globally accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) in 1997 and by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in 2002. IICS is the ONLY international school in Istanbul to be thus globally recognized for the high international standards of its academics. IICS was re-accredited in 2008 by a joint inspection of the CIS and NEASC in April.  IICS is being reviewed for re-accreditation by CIS and NEASC in 2017-18. 

  AFFILIATIONS
Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA)

The school is a member of the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA) which offers IICS the opportunity for intramural athletics and activities with CEESA member schools in 18 other countries. Each year there are numerous CEESA-organized sporting, cultural, and academic events in which students participate, giving them the chance to travel to other countries to learn and compete.

European Council of International Schools (ECIS)

The European Council of International Schools (ECIS) is a collaborative network promoting the ideals and best practice of international education by providing and facilitating opportunities for professional development, supporting the development and evaluation of a school's curriculum and instruction, and in numerous other ways. ECIS leads in addressing significant current and future educational and global issues in support of its membership in Europe and worldwide.


IICS is also a member of

What does accreditation mean?
The importance of accreditation for expatriate families is particularly important, given the number of times they are likely to change countries and hence, schools. Selecting accredited schools helps ensure that a student’s educational efforts and the quality of his/her academic studies will be recognized in their next country’s school. It lets families know that their school is providing an education that meets internationally benchmarked standards.

The Council of International Schools, one of the international agencies that accredits IICS, describes accredited schools as follows… The award of accreditation shows that:

 

  • The school is devoted to its mission. It cares enough about what it does to seek validation by a recognized accreditation authority.
  • The school knows itself. It has thought deeply about the services it offers to students, family and community.
  • The school is student-orientated. Its philosophy of education is suitable for the students on roll, and encompasses the development of the whole individual.
  • The school keeps its promises. It promises only what it can deliver.
  • The school accepts objective assessment. It is prepared to open its doors periodically to regular evaluation by the school community and by outside experienced evaluators.
  • The school is constantly seeking to improve its performance in curricular and other areas.
  • The school plans for the future. As part of the on-going nature of the evaluation process, accredited schools are continually planning future developments.

 

Accreditation has value for all members of the school community. Concerned professionals as well as parents naturally seek a quality education for children. Expatriate parents in particular face a strange environment which offers few guidelines on how best to select the most appropriate school for their child’s needs. In some areas there may be only one international school available for the children of the expatriate community. The fact that a school is accredited provides members of the community with the assurances outlined above. {/AF}
