Admissions FAQs

How long is the school day?

School starts at 8:30 and ends at 15:30 except on Tuesdays, when it ends at 14:30 at the Marmara campus and 13:30 at the Hisar campus.

How does my child get to and from school?

Most students use our comprehensive school bus service offered at both campuses.  However, some parents drive to school themselves and some students are brought by their family's driver.

Does my child have to apply to IICS on a specific date?

No. Provided we have space available, your child can begin school as soon as the admission process is completed and a place has been confirmed. The Registrar will inform you with the starting date.

When should I start the application process?

We recommend you submit your application in January/February in order to join us for the start of the next academic year in August.  If you are planning to join IICS in the course of the academic year, please submit your application as soon as possible.

Does IICS maintain waiting lists?

Yes, when necessary. As an international school, IICS enrolment fluctuates throughout the year as families relocate according to their jobs. This can mean that some classes may be full at the time of application, but may also become available later.
There are two different waiting lists.  One is for expatriate children and the other is for dual citizens.  Dependent on the spaces and dual ratios in that class, students will be offered positions once they come up.

How will my non-English-speaking child manage in an English language school?

We have a comprehensive English for Speakers of Other Languages program (ESOL), which enables students to become mainstream students as soon as possible. With over 40 nationalities in our student body, many of our students do not speak English when they arrive. However, our teachers and students are skilled in making them feel at home.

My child is currently receiving learning support.  Does IICS have a learning resource programme?

IICS has a LIMITED learning resource programme, so it is very important that you contact us as soon as possible, giving full details of the levels of support your child is currently receiving.  This way we can assess whether or not we have the resources that will meet your child’s needs.  Please send as much information as possible--current report cards, Individual Education Plans, standardized testing results, Educational Psychologist reports, etc-- so that our team can give you an informed decision.

My child will turn 3 on September 4th, as he only misses the cut off date by a couple of days, can he be enrolled in your pre-school class?

No.  In our Pre K and prep classes, we observe our cut-off date ( September 1st) strictly.  THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY. For students applying to Grade 1 -6, please click here to see placement policy.

I am not familiar with your class numbering system.  What grade should my child apply for? My family is transferring from Korea.  My child will complete Grade 4 in February.  Can he enter Grade 5 when we come to Istanbul in March?

No.  When students transfer to us from a country where the academic year runs from January-December, our policy is to place them in the grade that they just completed.
